Margherita Rossetto (the Venetian Ceramist)
"La Margherita” is a little and inviting shop (workshop) in Venice, in Corte Canal near Campo della Lana. It is well known to Venetians, who stop by often along with countless visitors from all over the world.
The artist, Margherita Rossetto, creates her one-of-a-kind pieces using age-old artist techniques and an ever-changing style right in the workshop for all the passersby to see. A graduate of the Art Institute of Padova in Textile Art, she then went on to the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice to study set design. She has worked with many professional artists and artisans. Her interests are not limited to ceramics; they range from scenography to photography to a continual quest for new ways of expression and new materials.
Recently, her work with ceramics was profiled in the book “Venice and its Artisan Artists”, edited by Vianello Libri and sponsored by UNESCO. Margherita Rossetto keeps the tradition of ceramics in Venice alive, using the maioliche technique, innovating and transforming it with her own personal style. Each piece is unique: her painting is ever changing in its moods, games and surprises. Her objects are for everyday use, yet they add playful sunshine to a walk through the streets and squares of Venice.
